It is built on the MIT model of the Collaborative Innovation Network, a community bound not by hierarchy but by a shared mission, where knowledge, experimentation, and leadership circulate freely, and every contribution returns to the network as a shared resource.
ARTOS was established in response to a structural shift in the moving image. For the first time, pictures can be generated not only by a camera but by generative algorithms, changing who makes creative decisions, how authorship is defined, and how a film comes together. That shift demands a common language, a shared methodology, and working standards. ARTOS exists to build them, so filmmakers lead this transition rather than follow it.
Independent investigation of tools, pipelines, and hybrid or fully generative methods, together with the legal frameworks around them. Findings feed the standard and are documented and shared openly within the network.
Programs for working professionals and the next generation of filmmakers: workshops, lectures, guest sessions at film schools, and curriculum built around the standard and real production practice.
Advisory support and pilots that test the standard on real productions, covering planning, budgeting, integration, and delivery, with results documented for the whole community.
A working community of cinematographers, directors, producers, educators, technologists, and legal experts who apply the standard’s shared principles in daily practice, report what they learn, and co-validate the standard as it evolves.
Work on the legal and regulatory evolution of the field: developing and maintaining the standard so it protects authorship rights, clarifies attribution, and supports compliance as AI enters the creative process.

ARTOS Foundation is headquartered at ATM Studio in Warsaw, one of the largest film and television studios in Poland.
We have partnered with ATM Virtual to run our community events and workshops, and to use their virtual production stages for research and for building our own practices. Their volume stages and expertise give the network a real place to test how new technologies meet the work on set.
